Why was BJP voted out?

Suddenly everyone seems to be a political expert, dishing out simplistic explanations like "BJP ignored the villages!!", "They ignored the poor!"
Had it been so simple to win elections in india, no one would have been voted out. Yet, more often than not, incumbent governments are voted out.
Just take the example of Chandrababu Naidu. It is alleged that he focussed just on the IT sector and Hyderabad, while ignoring the rural areas. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
According to an NCAER survey, rural Andhra has witnessed a growth of 32% in their income levels between 1999 to 2002, as compared to 40% in urban Andhra! Surely that isnt large enough a gap!
Also, Hyderabad now has more than 40% of Andhra's rich people, as compared to 30% before Naidu. Yet he has defeated in Hyderabad!
Now before the pro poor people start talking about that 40% figure being an indication of the pro rich leanings of Naidu, let me remind you that the same number is nearly 80% in West Bengal!
Yet the Communist Party keeps coming back to power in W Bengal!

Swaminath Aiyer has written an excellent article on the election results, ridiculing the explanations being given out for the BJP debacle.
Also, sample this piece written by that raving lunatic Arundhati Roy!! Notice the contrast in their writing styles. While she is always making vague statements without any facts to back her arguments, he is always precise and logical, supporting every statement by facts and figures.
Sample this statement by her:
"I'm always very happy with people who are slightly unsure of themselves. She has taken so many risks, and yet she's so unsure of herself and careful," Roy told AFP. "She doesn't play the princess."

I really do not understand how can people read both and be convinced by the latter!!!
